There are many different kinds of insects you may find in and around your home. Lets start with the most obvious insects.
Cockroaches are seen in almost every home. There are basically five different kinds of cockroaches that wander into our homes. The largest of the five is the American cockroach. Two other large cockroaches that you might find in your home are the smokybrown cockroach and the oriental cockroach. There are two smaller cockroaches that can be found on your home. The brownbanded cockroach and the most presistant cockroach found is the German cockroach.
Ants are another common insect found in and around the home. There are so many different kinds of ants it would be impossible to name them all but the most common are the fire ant, especially if you live in the Southern States and the carpenter ant which can be found all over the United States.
Other common ants can be the pharaoh ant which some people refer to as piss ants or sugar ants, the thief ant, little black ant, crazy ant, odorous house ant which give off an odor when smashed and the pavement ant.
Beetles and weevles are sometimes found in the home. There are many different types of beetles. Some common ones that can be bothersome in the home are the flour beetle that can be found in flour, sugar, grains, cerials and other goods of this nature. Weevils can also be found in these same goods. These types of beetles and weevils are usually brought home from the grocery store. The Indian meal moth, actually not a beetle but can be found in kitchens and spread throughout the home. Other types of beetles are the wood boring beetles such as the powder post beetle and old house borer.
Even though spiders are not classified as insects, they are a pest. Spiders are always in the home especially in the warm months of the year. Most spiders are harmless but some such as the brown recluse and the black widow can invoke a painfull bite. Other types of spiders are the yellow argiope and the wolf spider just to name a few.
Other insects include sowbugs, pillbugs, fleas, ticks (not classified and an insect because it has eight legs), bees and wasps, millipedes, earwigs, scorpions, silverfish and moths.
Let's not forget other pests such as the house mouse, Norway rat and roof rat which can become an enormous problem in certain areas.
These are of course not every insect or pest found in and around the home but it is a good start.
